About May Institute and the National Autism Center
About May Institute and
the National Autism Center

May Institute is a nonprofit organization that provides educational, rehabilitative,
and behavioral healthcare services to individuals with autism and other developmental
disabilities, brain injury, mental illness, and behavioral healthcare needs.
The Institute also provides training and consultation services to professionals,
organizations, and public school systems.
Over the past 50 years, May Institute has evolved into an award-winning national
network that serves over 25,000 individuals and their families annually at nearly
200 service locations in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, and
on the West Coast. Six May Institute schools serve children and adolescents
with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other developmental disabilities,
and another school serves individuals with brain injury. The Institute has become
an active center of research and training, maintaining affiliations with more
than 40 universities, hospitals, and human service agencies worldwide.
The National Autism Center is dedicated to serving children and adolescents
with Autism Spectrum Disorders by providing reliable information, promoting
best practices, and offering comprehensive resources for families, practitioners,
and communities.
An advocate for evidence-based treatment approaches, the Center identifies effective
programming and shares practical information with families about how to respond
to the challenges they face. The Center also conducts applied research as well
as develops training and service models for practitioners. Finally, the Center
works to shape public policy concerning ASD and its treatment through the development
and dissemination of national standards of practice.
